Attention drone enthusiasts and residents of Newtownards, Northern Ireland! Important news has just been released regarding airspace restrictions set for 21st June 2025. As the nation gears up to celebrate Armed Forces Day, the UK government has announced a temporary ban on flying unmanned aircraft in the Newtownards area.

What You Need to Know:

  • When: The restriction applies from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM on 21st June 2025.
  • Where: A no-fly zone is established within a 3-nautical-mile radius of the coordinates 543454N 0054129W, covering the Newtownards area.
  • Height Restriction: No unmanned aircraft is allowed to fly below 1,200 feet above mean sea level within this zone.
  • Exceptions: The only exceptions are for unmanned aircraft operating under a specific permission granted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland Airspace Co-ordinator.

Why the Ban?

The decision to restrict drone flights comes as a measure to ensure public safety and security during the Armed Forces Day celebrations. With large crowds expected and a variety of activities planned, the airspace needs to be clear to avoid any potential hazards.

  • For those needing to operate within the restricted zone, contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland Airspace Co-ordinator for potential permissions.
