Liverpool Airspace Lockdown: Drone Flying Ban for Upcoming Concerts

28 April 2025 at 3:04 am (Europe/London)

Attention, drone enthusiasts and concert-goers! The UK government has announced a temporary ban on unmanned aircraft flying over Liverpool's Anfield Stadium, coinciding with three major music concerts this June. The restriction, aimed at ensuring public safety, will be in effect from June 24th to June 28th, 2025.

What's Happening?

The Secretary of State has implemented these restrictions to prevent drones from flying over the concert venue during specified hours. This decision comes as large crowds are expected to gather at Anfield Stadium, raising concerns about safety and security.

When and Where?

  • Dates & Times: The ban is active on June 24th, 25th, and 28th, from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM British Summer Time (BST) each day. Note that the official regulation times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), one hour behind BST.
  • Location: The restricted area is defined by a 0.3 nautical mile radius centered at 53°25'51"N, 2°57'39"W, covering airspace up to 1,300 feet above sea level.

Exceptions?

Drones can only operate within this restricted airspace if granted special permission by the Merseyside Police Service. Without this clearance, drone operations are strictly prohibited during the specified times.

Why the Ban?

The Merseyside Police Service, alongside the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport, has determined that this temporary measure is essential for public safety during the concerts.
