
New Veterinary Surgeons Registration Fees Set for 2025
In a recent update from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), new registration and retention fees for veterinary surgeons and practitioners have been announced. The changes, set to take effect from April 1, 2025, come as part of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations 2025, approved by the Privy Council.
What’s Changing?
Under the updated regulations, a new fee structure is being introduced, reflecting a modest increase of approximately 4% compared to previous rates. Here's a breakdown of the key changes:

Registration Fees:
- New graduates registering by December 31 following their graduation will pay £208.
- Other registrants between April 1 and September 30 will pay £418.
- Those registering between October 1 and March 31 will also pay £208.

Temporary Registration:
- A normal registration fee stands at £418.
- Temporary practice registration for up to six months is set at £208.
- The retention fee remains at £418.

Retention Fees:
- Standard registrants who pay on time will pay £418, while late payments will increase to £454.
- Overseas practising registrants will pay £208 if on time, or £244 if late.
- Non-practising registrants will pay £69 if on time, increasing to £105 if late.

Additional Fees:
- Changes in practice circumstances will incur additional fees ranging from £69 to £349, depending on the timing and nature of the change.

Credits and Restorations:
- Certain circumstances will allow for credit payments or reduced restoration fees, with restoration fees set at £418 for non-payment removal and £129 for other circumstances.
Why the Change?
The RCVS has stated that these updates are part of routine adjustments to ensure the sustainability of the registration system. Despite the fee increase, no significant impact on the private, voluntary, or public sectors is anticipated, according to the explanatory notes accompanying the order.
