New Flight Restrictions Around Sywell Aerodrome for National Aerobatics Contest
Attention all aviation enthusiasts and pilots: new flying restrictions are set to take effect around Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire this July in light of the British National Aerobatics Contest.
What's Happening?
From the 8th to the 13th of July 2025, Sywell Aerodrome will host the British National Aerobatics Contest. This event will feature numerous aircraft performing complex and high-energy aerobatic maneuvers.
Why the Restrictions?
To ensure public safety during these aerial displays, the UK government has imposed temporary flying restrictions in the area surrounding Sywell Aerodrome. The Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport have collaborated on these measures to prevent any potential mid-air incidents during the contest.
Details of the Restrictions
- Timeframe: The restrictions are active daily from 0800 to 1700 hours (UTC), which corresponds to 0900 to 1800 hours (BST).
- Restricted Zone: No aircraft is permitted to fly below 5,500 feet above mean sea level within a circular area with a 2-nautical-mile radius centered at coordinates 521817N 0004729W.
- Exceptions: Exemptions apply to aircraft operated by Police Air Support Units, Emergency Medical Services, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, or those flying with explicit permission from the contest officials.
Need More Information?
For those requiring further details, these regulations will be disseminated via Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC) and Notices to Aviation (NOTAM). Should you have any queries, Mr. Alan Frew, the Airspace Regulator at the Civil Aviation Authority, is available at 03301 382734.
